Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income and high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I have the privilege of being the music teacher.
Most of our students are on free or reduced lunch and parents are not able to afford instruments or supplies for students personal use.
My students are super excited to have music back at our school and have shown interest in various instruments like recorders, pianos and violins. This semester, we are hoping that donors can help our little bears immerse themselves in everything music with hands the on experience of having their own instruments and supplies.
My Project
This year, I want to use more project-based learning lessons in the music classroom with my students. Project-based learning is a different approach to get our students immersed in learning new information. Through project-based learning, students collaborate with each other while using technology, books, and other resources to create, research and ultimately present what they learned during the lesson. My goal is to introduce them to new instruments, musical composers, and different genres of music with this approach and facilitate the instruction with them taking the lead. Students will use the markers, card stock, and Cricut to add their own personal touch to their final projects when they present to the class. We also need more ink for our classroom printer since we ran out last school year.
