This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I charter school serving a community just outside Los Angeles. Our school focuses on leadership, service learning, and social-emotional growth. My fourth grade class includes a diverse group of students, with a wide range of interests and abilities. They are inspired to make a difference in their community, and do so through service learning projects throughout the school year.
Due to economic need, most of my students receive free or reduced price lunch.
They are special in many ways, especially in their love of reading! They enjoy watching videos about and discussing growth mindset. They also love drawing, journaling, and dancing. My students are very sweet and we are learning to recognize and celebrate our unique strengths and talents.
My Project
Help me give my students a copy of The Wild Robot to read while learning at home. The read aloud; a simple, yet powerful way to connect to students. This is such a wonderful book to enjoy with family, and it promotes discussions about bullying, acceptance, and diversity.
A shared reading of the novel, The Wild Robot will help my students maintain a special connection to school while they are learning from home.
Access to physical books are very limited for my students at this time. They're not able to borrow books from our classroom or the local library. Providing my students with their very own copy of the book will be such a positive way to promote reading at home.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
