Wii Need to Dance, Sing, and Laugh During Indoor Recess

My students need a Nintendo Switch and Just Dance 2017 and 2018 to stay active and keep their little heart rates up during the times (frequent times) when inclement weathers forces our students to stay indoors.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds; some come from broken homes, foster care, some reside with grandparents and some of my students come from single parent households. However, the students come to school with a ready smile and eager to learn daily. The demographics of my school are as follows: 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, 90% percent of my students were identified as Hispanic or Latino upon entry to school. For the majority of my students Spanish is their native tongue. For that reason our school is currently following an Early Exit Model to first teach students in their native language and then support English as their second language in a scaffolded method.

My kindergarten students are so amazing! They come to school so eager to learn, so exited to learn new content in their native language. Perseverance has been the focus since day one of kinder. They are learning that they can learn and do any challenge that they might face with each others help.

My Project

My students would highly benefit from having a Wii Switch along with Just Dance 2017 and Just Dance 2018. The reasoning behind this request is due to the inclement weather history of our region. Many times our school will cancel outdoor recess due to inclement weather and regardless of how many activities I have for my students, they still have lots of energy because they ended up staying in the classroom.

A Wii Switch and Just Dance would allow all my students to dance, sing, and more importantly laugh during recess. The benefits of exercising during school day help students achieve higher grades and improve student behavior (Kidhealth.org). A Wii Switch would help my students tremendously during the indoor recess days.
