Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Children today spend more than six hours a day in one room, my classroom. Many of them have trouble sitting still and concentrating. It is not natural for children to be still. We transition from lesson to lesson every 10 minutes, respecting the short attention span of 5 year Olds.
In today's educational climate, students must test and learn to keyboard and write.
They must spend time at their desks or at the computer tables. Many become wiggly and loose focus within a couple minutes. When they do, their work and achievement suffers greatly
My Project
I have requested these special chairs for my computer table and small group table to help the students retain focus. Little movements and constant adjustments help the child say sitting and allow wiggly throughout their sitting time. I have also requested markers. As simple as it seems, markers are a different media that many 5 year old have never experienced, simply because Mom might not want him or her coloring on furniture in the house!! In school, use of markers is directed and focused. It allows a creative outlet for artistic learners and pumps up creativity!!
I want opportunities for my students.
They deserve the same, or more, opportunities that we had when we were young, but unfortunately, due to politics and budget concerns, are not getting them. Please allow teachers like me to make appropriate choices for the children that we work with and teach every day. It is what we were trained for and what we are passionate about. Help me and others like me to teach children using creativity and caring.
