My Students
Over the past 16 years, I have taught in four different schools and the students here are the most excited about learning of any school that I have ever taught. 100% of the students receive free lunch at my Title I school. My current students work the hardest and appreciate any amount of time, any amount of love, and any amount of learning that I am able to give them. I will be beginning my third year here and I hope will never leave.
I am passionate about keeping my students engaged and in maintaining their excitement!
While I cannot control the environment my students live, I do control my classroom environment. My room is a safe place for all of my students. Everyone is free to ask questions, make mistakes, and are able to be comfortable being themselves.
My Project
Today's students have a difficult time sitting still and paying attention. They shouldn't have to sit down in order to pay attention. Movement helps learning and is beneficial to children's health. Wobble Chairs strengthen student's core and allow students the opportunity to move while working and thinking. Moving adds oxygen to our brains. More oxygen equals more learning. Moving and/or standing improves core muscles, posture, and burns more calories. I have always allowed my students to stand in my classroom. However; with the standard height desks they must hunch over to complete assignments. Standing desks allow students a comfortable way to stand and learn. Standing releases endorphins, which increases attention, creativity, and productivity! Another seating option is lap desks. Some students work best on the floor. Lap desks allow them to sit while offering a hard surface to work. Sitting on the floor helps posture and increases flexibility.
Seating options are essential to meeting the needs of all learners.
Children cannot remain sitting and remain learning for long periods of time. Diverse seating adds movement into the classroom without adding distractions. With seating options, students are able to fidget without disrupting other children's learning. Even adults in the workforce are making a move to flexible seating and employers find their employees are more productive. I want my students to be industrious as possible in their learning!
