My Project
Our students are asked to sit still too often. In the Inspiration Station Library Media Center we know that wigglers are thinkers who need support to focus. We have four of these chairs and are trying to complete a class set for small group work.
Flexible seating supports our neurodivergent learners who often need to move as they are thinking and processing.
Our students are curious and active. When big ideas happen, they often result in big movements with their bodies. When thinking is happening our students will often tip their chairs to wobble which helps with self-regulation so they can focus.
"When my thinker is thinking sometimes the thinking is too big for my body because I'm little-" says Zara, a 1st grader (name changed for privacy & safety). Zara rocks and spins when she is thinking and our 'wobble' chairs help her fully participate in group activities and table work. Providing this type of alternative seating in a public school gives our students the same resources and support to succeed as students in well-funded private schools.
