My students come to school everyday full of excitement! They are thrilled to be with their friends. They learn by interacting with their peers, problem-solving, and sharing. I would like my classroom to reflect the kind of learners I teach. My first graders need to move, stand, wiggle, and collaborate! A flexible-seating classroom will foster this type of learning environment.
I work in a rural community at a Title I school with 79% of students receiving free or reduced lunch.
There is a great deal of pride at our school, and our school staff is always learning new strategies and techniques to increase student achievement. My hope is that student engagement will be increased in a flexible-seating learning environment. I know that my students will be very excited to see new seating options and have more opportunities to collaborate and move!
My Project
Wobble seats are a flexible seating option that allow students to wiggle and move while working. Brain research has shown that movement increases learning. I want my students to be engaged in learning, and these wobble seats will be an exciting seating option in my classroom!
Wobble Chairs from Lakeshore Learning will increase core strength, posture, motivation, and engagement.
Flexible seating allows students to have a choice about where they learn best. Flexible seating has been linked to improved behavior, better health and increased academic performance. These seating options will allow my first graders to move around the room and collaborate with their peers. These wobble seats will be an exciting addition my first grade classroom!
