My Students

Hello! I teach first graders. They are very interested in seeing their friends in real life, as much of their Pre-School and Kindergarten socialization was shortened. Two out of three of their learning years were in isolation and/or periods of quarantine. They learned through computers during the global pandemic. Due to their interrupted learning they are trying to catch up on those school skills and focus on what the teacher is saying in real time.

For many of them, this is their first exposure to all day learning- where listening attentively, the need for kinesthetic movement, and whole body listening has never been more needed.

These students have not had an extended opportunity or exposure to the skills necessary for successful learning at school.

Many of them could benefit from an "active kids-wobble chair" the website says that "this chair encourages the high energy child to get their wiggles out while remaining in their seat so their activities and studies get done. The best way to help ADD & ADHD kids handle sitting down for long periods." This resource will support students in their social, emotional, and mental well being.

My Project

These materials will help my students be able to listen more attentively and focus because they will be able to move. Kinesthetic movement is so important in helping students process academic information and in relieving stress caused by cortisol in the brain as students are learning. My first graders have had much of their learning take place remotely and/ or during periods of quarantine. Which means that many of them have not had the repeated exposures to practice prolonged listening and learning. A chair that encourages movement helps students release extra energy.
