My Students
I work in an area of high-poverty with free lunch and breakfast for all of the students in my school.
I have a large group of Kindergartners who are ready to blossom as readers, writers, and mathematicians.
School is a fun and safe place for my students and it is my job to make sure they want to come to my class and that they have what they need to be successful.
They work so hard each and every day!
My Project
By incorporating flexible seating in three Kindergarten classrooms we are providing a way for our busy 5 year old students to move and work at the same time. This will help them to stay healthy while they are working during the day. It is often hard to sit and stay focused but by having multiple options they will be able to choose and explore new ways that will help them to be successful.
Classrooms that provide flexible seating allows for a more student centered classroom.
Research shows that by implementing flexible seating teachers have seen an increase in their students’ grades, they are more engaged, and are participating more. As a teacher, it is my job to try new ways to help my students reach their full potential everyday and I feel this is one way that I can help. This will help them academically as well as their health.
I have requested ball chairs to help my students move while they are working at a table. I plan to use a different type of flexible seating at each table so my students are able to explore new ways and see what works for them. The ball chairs will be an excellent space to help them move and focus. I am also requesting scoop rockers that my students can use on the rug while reading or working on a clip board. These resources will be used in three Kindergarten classrooms for many many years and help hundreds of students.
