My Students
I work in an area of high-poverty with free lunch and breakfast for all of the students in my school.
I have a large group of Kindergartners who are ready to blossom as readers, writers, and mathematicians.
School is a fun and safe place for my students and it is my job to make sure they want to come to my class and that they have what they need to be successful.
They work so hard each and every day!
My Project
By incorporating flexible seating in three Kindergarten classrooms we are providing a way for our busy 5 year old students to move and work at the same time. This will help them to exercise while they are working. It is often hard to sit and stay focused but by having multiple options they will be able to choose and explore new ways that will help them to be successful.
Classrooms that provide flexible seating allows for a more student centered classroom.
Research shows that by implementing flexible seating teachers have seen an increase in their students grades, they are more engaged, and are participating more. As a teacher, it is my job to try new ways to help my students reach their full potential everyday and I feel this is one way that I can help both academically and with their health.
I have requested wobble cushions that students will be able to use on their chairs as well as on the floor. I plan to use these on the floor with a table low to the ground. This will give them another option in our classroom to keep them moving. By giving them option on their seat daily they will be able to figure out what works well for them and help them to focus on their job. Another item my students need are scoop rockers and trays to work on the rug or use to read in. These flexible seating options will help three Kindergarten classrooms for years and years to come. Your donation will help hundreds of students become successful learners in our student centered classrooms.
