This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an incredible group of K-2 students in a self-contained special education classroom, where each child brings unique strengths and challenges to our learning environment. My students are bright, curious, and eager to learn, but many struggle with sensory regulation, focus, and feeling comfortable in a traditional classroom setting. Without the right supports, it can be difficult for them to engage in learning and feel secure throughout the day.

Just like a warm coat or a cozy space at home, these resources will help create a nurturing classroom where my students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.The sensory seating and calming tools I’m requesting—wobble cushions, flexible seats, and weighted supports—will provide my students with the comfort and security they need to stay focused and emotionally regulated.

The weighted blanket and sensory rocker chair will be especially important for students who become overwhelmed and need a calming space to reset and feel at ease. These tools will give them a way to self-soothe, reducing stress and anxiety, which is essential for their emotional well-being. The movement-friendly seating will also allow students to wiggle and shift without disrupting their learning, helping them stay engaged while still meeting their sensory needs.

My goal is to provide a warm, caring, and supportive learning environment where all of my students feel comfortable, valued, and ready to reach their full potential. With your support, we can ensure that every child in my classroom has access to the tools they need to feel safe, calm, and successful each day.
