Each year my classroom is filled with 20-25 kindergarteners that are full of life and eager to learn! Now days in kindergarten we are holding pretty high expectations, especially for five and six year old kiddos. Most students are more successful when they are allowed the freedom to MOVE.
Kindergarteners love to sing, dance, and wiggle around participating in learning.
We need to include more movement in the classroom.
Our school has six kindergarten classrooms with an average of 23 students per class. We are a Title 1 school. Many of our students do not have many learning opportunities outside of the the classroom. My goal as a teacher is to provide them with the learning environment that revolves around learning.
My Project
What is a wobble chair? These innovative chairs allow one's knees, hips, and back to find comfortable and ever-changing positions. These wobble chairs/stools will allow for my students to "move" while still actively participating in their learning. They will help transition our classroom from traditional seating to selective seating. Many of my students are unable to sit for long periods of time without losing focus and becoming antsy. These wobble chairs will add an outlet for extra energy while students are completing school work. Studies and research have indicated that students tend to move more when they are using working memory, especially students with an attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder. Sometimes fidgety behavior may look like a huge distraction in the classroom but it can also help some students maintain their focus.
