Our school has just opened Fall of 2017. My classroom is the language arts side of the dual immersion program in first grade. My classroom will be moving into a portable next year. This puts a large class size into a small classroom. By adding wobble stools and bounce balls the students can get their wiggles out without being disruptive.
With large class sizes in dual immersion it will be helpful to provide flexible seating.
Flexible seating puts choice into the hands of the students allowing them to choose the kind of seat that helps them learn best.
My Project
Students who are allowed to choose their seat or spot in which they learn best have higher motivation and academic performance. The wobble stools and balance ball seats will give my students options to help them be in charge or their learning.
Studies show that students are more actively engaged when they are physically active, comfortable, and in charge of their learning space.
Just like adults, students get tired of sitting all day. My goal is to give them options to choose the kind of seat that helps them learn best. Active seating will help their busy bodies not be disruptive in a small classroom.
