My Students

Bright, imaginative, energetic, enthusiastic, loving, and well…crazy are just a few of the words I would use to describe my students. I teach Kindergarten in a Title 1 elementary school in Virginia. What is a Title 1 school? Being a Title 1 school means that the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch and breakfast. Teaching in a Title 1 school comes with many challenges. Quite often our school is the most stable and positive environment for the children in our community.

I want my students to become explorers, writers, readers, mathematicians and more!

I work hard to create a classroom community that is positive and inclusive. I plan engaging lessons that inspire my students to be active learners. When my students walk into my classroom, I want them to feel safe, loved, and valued. In an ever changing world, I hope to instill a love for learning that continues to blossom throughout my students’ lives.

My Project

We are movers and shakers in this Kindergarten classroom! I want to redesign my classroom to better fit the needs of my students. We need flexible seating options to help us stay focused and engaged. It's hard to be 5 and sit in a chair for 10 minutes, let alone all day! However, that is what's asked of these little learners. I want my students to take ownership of their learning environment. Giving students the freedom to choose where they want to sit gives them a sense of empowerment!

Instead of battling the wiggles, we will embrace them!

I'm asking for wobbly stools, soft cushions, stability balls, and sensory seat cushions to give my students the opportunity to wiggle while they work. Students will be able to choose daily whether they'd like to sit on the floor, wobble on a stool, rock on a stability ball, or even stand while working on their assignments.

I know with a variety of seating options, my students will be more engaged, feel valued, and take pride in their learning community. Let's begin this journey together!
