My students need s alternative seating in our classroom. Our school days are long and our kids work hard. Some students do not do well in traditional seating. These stools will some provide flexibility. We need 8 active learning stools.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 60 second graders Language Arts every day. I have each set of students for 3 hours. Our time is centered around reading wonderful literature, deep reading, and writing. We use chants and songs to remember key language skills.
We strive to close the achievement gap in our low income neighborhood and we are succeeding.
Many of our students are English language learners, so reading is even more of a challenge. This year I have 60 wonderful, energetic, creative second graders that love books and love to read.
My Project
We work very hard in our school and expect a lot from our students when it comes to focus and behavior. We have a traditional classroom. Students have desks that are grouped for whole class learning and we have center stations for our morning reading lessons. Many second graders have a hard time sitting still. They tip their chairs or lay on their desks. These stools will provide those students with an alternative seating that will help them sit up straight and focus. I intend to use the stools at my reading center in the morning and then to offer them to certain students at their desks in the afternoon. I think they will give the students that need it the movement they need without disrupting the classroom. Studies show that these chairs help with focus for those friends that need that extra little something to stay on task.
