Have you ever looked out at the ocean on a stormy day? That is what my classroom looks like with my wiggly children. I have students that cannot sit still. They are constantly rocking back in their seats, falling quite often. For their safety, we need alternative seating.
My students are loving and active.
They are motivated by hands-on learning. I have 11 girls and 12 boys, many of whom want to be scientists or engineers when they grow up. We are a STEM school and spend much of our time on PBLs (Problem Based Learning).
My Project
My wiggle worms will use the wobble chairs to get their energy out while still participating in lessons and getting their work done. I will assign a couple of students to use the chairs full-time, while rotating the third chair around the rest of my students.
If I can provide them with safer alternatives to rocking back in their chairs, I believe I can save them from stitches and head wounds, as well as helping them be more focused and attentive in our lessons.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
