Students with disabilities often get into trouble because they are not sitting still during instruction. This is not their fault. The students cannot help themselves and need to move around. With the flexible seating options, the students in my special education classroom will be able to move as needed, but still be engaged in the lesson. By having a variety of flexible seating options, students can explore what style of seating best works for them. Once students figure this out, they can advocate for themselves about different seating options in other classes.
Studies show that students with disabilities who have access to seating that allows for movement tend to be more engaged in lessons and more apt to remain focused on tasks.
With flexible seating, my hope is to be able to provide my students with the opportunity to know that they have options to help them with all areas of their education .
