My Project
I teach a diverse group of sixth-grade students who need to move. Throughout the day, I have four- one-hour class periods as well as homeroom and enrichment times. Flexible seating provides students with the ability to find the perfect spot to learn. I currently have a couple of futons, a few wobble stools, and a few other options. However, students tend to gravitate to the wobble stools and the lone chair with wheels. This project will double the amount of wobble stools I have and provide four additional chairs with wheels. I have included four tables with this project to replace some of the outdated tables in my room that are hard to keep level and are wearing out. I am also requesting new stools to replace the stools at my small group table that are broken. Lastly, I am requesting some basic writing tools to supplement our classroom materials. In math class there are never enough pencils or expo markers.
My students tend to stay on task longer when they are comfortable.
The furniture items I am requesting will add to the the classroom environment I am trying to establish. I teach math, which is already a tough subject for many of my students. My goal is to create a classroom that encourages my students to walk in feeling like they belong and want to be there. Building that confidence at the door will carry over to their learning.
The items I am requesting will enhance the learning environment of my classroom and in turn, build confidence in all of my students. Comfort in the classroom equates to confidence which results in more learning. Your support will go a long way to grow learners and future leaders.
