My Students

My students are K-5 students in an arts-integrated school who love taking learning to the next level. In our resource classroom, students learn explicit reading, writing and math skills that push their learning to the next level through the arts. Students in my classroom have varying degrees of strengths and needs, but one thing's for sure...

Students in my classroom have a love for learning that is inspiring, and a sense of community that is inviting.

Students in my classroom are part of a school that encourages students to be part of the classroom with their same-age peers as much as possible. Students come to my classroom for support to fill gaps, catch up or stay on track. Students leave my classroom feeling confident in their abilities and trusting that someone is there to help them when things get tough. Every day we celebrate the little wins because eventually those lead to bigger victories.

My Project

The majority of my students are diagnosed with ADHD and struggle to learn in traditional classroom settings with traditional seating options. Right now, opportunities for movement are limited due to social distancing, so this is especially restricting for my students. This has resulted in more breaks needed away from instruction, and a whole lot of frustration with themselves.

Flexible seating options will set my students up for success and, more importantly, confidence!

Wobble seats and balance balls will allow students to remain seated while wiggling around in their seating area. Bouncy seats allow students to turn ANY seat into a wiggly chair. Kick bands offer a more discrete outlet for getting their wiggles out. A sensory swing will be an invaluable tool for other students with significant sensory needs, or for those extra rough days when they just need a quiet break. These tools will allow my students to spend more time learning in their general education classrooms!
