My students need a variety of alternative seating choices to keep them active and focused while learning.

My Students
My classroom is filled with energetic, kindergarten students that are curious about everything! I use a combination of whole group, small group, partner, and independent working time daily. Many of my students have diverse learning styles and needs.
The students come from a wide range of backgrounds; however, like many other children, they are hardworking students who love to learn and explore!
We spend lots of time looking for information to solve problems and to help us answer questions about things we are wondering about.
My Project
Kindergarten students need a lot of space to move while they learn. Some students prefer standing desks, working in a comfortable chair, or laying on the floor. Research shows that students are better able to focus when allowed to choose to work in the way that's most comfortable for them and in a way that allows for movement. I would like to be able to provide more seating choices for my students to choose from.
I asked my students at the end of the year what would help them to learn better.
They all agreed that they would like different things to sit on throughout the room. Together, we brainstormed a list of things that they'd like to have in our classroom. One thing that all my students said was that they'd like a trampoline! They were very excited at the thought of being able to have more choices and the opportunity to move while working and learning.
All of these alternative seating options will provide students the chance to move and wiggle helping them to learn and stay active for more than 60 minutes a day while still engaging in the topic at hand.
Wobble pads and balance balls will give my students much needed movement and sensory input as they work hard at learning. Stools and different chairs will allow students to work on developing their core muscles while maintaining attention and focus. A trampoline will give my students with special needs a great opportunity to receive much needed sensory input while being active during instruction.
These alternative seating options provide students with over 60 minutes of activity and movement, which will help their growing bodies and brains learn even better!
