My Students
There is always one or two children in a classroom that a teacher can spot right away that cannot sit still no matter what..... I was one of those children. That child became a teacher. I needed something to help me sit still and focus.
My children are happy five and six year old children that attend kindergarten at a school in central Florida.
Our school is a K through grade 5 elementary school. We are a Title 1 school which means that we have a large portion of children that qualify for the free or reduced lunch program. 86% of the school get free or reduced lunch and the entire school population gets free breakfast. Our families have many hardships. The children in our classrooms have difficulties getting the basic every day needs that many take for granted.
My Project
I am hoping that this Hokki stool and two Movin' Sit Jrs could help three of my most active children concentrate during whole group instruction. These children cannot stop moving while sitting on the carpet. If I am teaching, they are swinging back and forth on their carpet square, playing with their shoe strings, or rocking in place. This causes other children to mimic and then I have a whole classroom of children rocking!
Using these seating items: the Hokki stool and Movin' Sit during whole group instruction, I am hoping to have children that have problems sitting still be able to focus.
This will mean they will learn important skills at a faster pace without having to have repeated small group instruction. If I had one of these items, I may have been less wiggly!
