My students need flexible seating to provide student choice and increase engagement.

My Students
My class of kindergarteners is a fun group, who are eager to learn! They attend school in a large district outside of Denver, Colorado. It is a Title I school which means that there is a high percentage of students from low-income families. There are about 600 students in the kindergarten through 8th grade building, and over 85% of the elementary school children qualify for free/reduced lunch. Despite the struggles that many students face outside of the classroom, my students are excited to come to school and ready to learn!
My Project
The goal of this project is to help support different learning styles in my classroom. Over the past several months, I have implemented flexible seating in my classroom to provide student choice, and increase engagement. Wobble stools would be a great addition to our classroom. These stools have a slightly rounded bottom that allows children to move while still engaging in a lesson. Children can safely move back and forth, side to side, or any combination of the two. They provide an outlet for extra energy.
I will use these stools at my table throughout the day for small groups, so that students can wiggle without disturbing other children.
Students will also have the opportunity to use them during breakfast, writing, and purposeful play.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
