Wiggle, Sit, Learn: Sensory-Friendly Seating for Kindergarten

Next school year, I’m excited to transition back into teaching Kindergarten! I’ll be welcoming 28 bright and curious young learners into my classroom in August, each bringing their own unique personalities, learning styles, and needs. As I prepare for this transition, I want to create a classroom environment that is not only warm and inviting but also responsive to the diverse needs of my students—including those who benefit from sensory support, movement breaks, and alternative seating options to stay focused and comfortable.
Flexible seating will play a key role in helping me build a student-centered classroom where every child can thrive.
Items like wobble stools, floor cushions, scoop rockers, and lap desks give students the freedom to choose how and where they learn best. For students with sensory sensitivities, attention challenges, or just a need to move, these seating options can make a world of difference in helping them stay calm, engaged, and ready to learn.
