it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, it turns out that I have several students who need help with focus and attention. Currently, they are all arguing over which one of them gets to sit on the one wiggle seat I have in the classroom because they all enjoy it so much.
Wiggle seats help improve students' focus by allowing them to move without getting out of their chairs.
They also keep students safer because the children who need them most will attempt to move regular chairs by rocking backward in them, which often results in a fall to the floor. The wiggle seat allows the students to feel like they are rocking even though their actual chair keeps all four legs on the ground.
Wiggle seats are especially helpful for students with ADHD. With additional wiggle seats, my students who need to fidget will be able to do so without disturbing their neighbors or risking a fall.
Our classroom also needs a bean bag chair for our calming corner. The one wiggle seat we do have usually stays in a regular chair in the calming corner when it's not in use, but a bean bag chair would be more appropriate in that space. Then the student using the calming corner could have a comfortable seat in which to relax, and the wiggle seat could be used elsewhere by another student who needs the sensation of rocking or fidgeting.
