This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing and resilient. Many are immigrants or from immigrant families. Many are affected by being homeless and neighborhood violence but come to school everyday ready to learn.
In a neighborhood where violence is an everyday part of life, school becomes so much more than just a place to learn.
The students in my classroom recognize the value of an education as a means to a positive future and hopefully, someday a safer community as well.
Our students are English Language Learners in an urban neighborhood. School is their safe haven and a place where they can focus on a positive future. They are eager to learn and take pride in the investment of others in their education.
My Project
We were lucky enough to get a table that can be lowered to allow for floor seats. I have a number of students with special needs related to ADHD and other behavioral or learning needs who like to move seats throughout the room. I have a few of those students who like to rock in their seats. I am hoping that providing these seats will give them a space to move around the room, use our floor table, and rock in their seat when needed. Our goal is always to create the ideal learning environment for every student in the classroom!
