Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten students have an inquisitive mind and often wonder how things work in the world in which they live. They love to ask questions about everything, and learn through exploration. At this age we prepare our students by having fun, exposing them to concepts and skills that are needed to support their future successes. Our students come from a multi-cultural urban school district where 99% of students receive free lunch. Many of our children will not have these opportunities unless we construct them in a supportive setting.

Please help me create exploratory centers where students can actively play and learn while building the necessary skills through a hands-on student centered approach.

Our classroom is a place where students know they are loved, where we build positive community relationships and students share what they learn with their peers. These resources will allow my students to engage in creative ways through a shared learning approach that will allow them to articulate their findings because they learned "by doing." My students deserve every opportunity to learn in clean and safe environment that will support them while they learn crucial foundational skills and challenge them as they learn new concepts.

My Project

Kindergarten friends need lots of opportunities for movement and play. The wiggle chairs will be used as a seating arrangement at our horseshoe table during guided reading. This will allow students the freedom to have movement while learning the proper procedures about concepts of print. The other bean bag activities will be used during our opening and closing meetings of our day. These interactive activities will engage my students through play with their peers, ultimately fostering social relationships, and the necessary skills to participate as a productive member in our community.
