My students need to be able to wiggle and move while learning about financial literacy. We need Hokki Stools, Bouncy Bands, a cash register, and Financial Literacy books.
My class is full of students who are excited to be at school each day to see what we will learn. Our favorite time is pulling out a keyboard and singing songs together that help us to learn our letter sounds, math facts, and about the world around us.
All of the students in our school qualify for free or reduced lunch.
The diversity that exists in our school comes from the reservation which borders our district and the Hispanic population that helps our farming community.
My Project
In a Title One school, one of the most important subjects we can teach our students is Financial Literacy. It is vital for students to learn the difference between needs and wants, saving and spending, and managing their money so that these skills will carry over into their adult lives.
By obtaining books that are written at a child's level and a cash register, students can learn and practice skills of money management in our center time by reading the stories and creating a classroom store with the cash register.
First grade students also need the ability to wiggle and move without distracting from our learning time. Hokki stools and Bouncy Bands allow students to have physical movement that won't distract from learning time.
I feel confident that my students will enjoy being able to move and learn the importance of learning to identify coins, save, spend, and manage money in our center time as we delve into Financial Literacy at a first grade level.
