This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school recently equipped our classrooms with wifi, however many of our students do not have smart phones or laptops. Many also do not have access to the Internet at home. How can we prepare them for the future with no access to technology?
This year my students range from 9th graders to Seniors.
With Common Core and 21st thinking skills on the horizon they do not have the necessary tools to be 21st century scholars. With the help of these tablets we would be able to create and explore history on a deeper level. These tablets would allow students equal access that they would otherwise not be able to have. After taking a poll in class more than 50% of students either do not have a computer or Internet access at home. With these tablets we would be able to offer them access at school.
My Project
Students who use these tablets would be able to view historical documents in class using the dropbox feature. For our seniors they would be able to look for financial aid and complete college applications. For our AP students they would be able to use free apps that would further enhance their studying. For my 9th and 10th graders they would utilize the tablets to create presentations on global themes for World History. The possibilities are endless!
While reading "The Latino Education Crisis" I realized that it is difficult to help close the achievement gap without the help of others and without access to technology.
