My Students
You know you've got a fun classroom when you and your students sing part of the Mickey Mouse March as your attention getting signal! My classroom focuses on instilling a love for learning as well as an understanding of the magic of imagination.
My 25 little Imagineers love my Disney themed classroom and often refer to it as Disneyland.
I teach a group of fun-loving, creative, and caring students who exhibit perseverance on a daily basis. Our school has an open-space concept, meaning that while we do have separate classrooms, they are all joined by a hallway at the back and we have no classroom doors (it's a hard one to explain!). Learning in open-space allows the students to develop a stronger sense of community because other students, teachers, and the principal are always within reach. My class loves to share things from home with each other, donate odds and ends to our class store, share their ideas about their learning, and just be together. Their hearts and minds amaze me daily.
My Project
One of the most unique aspects of my classroom is that my students don't have assigned seats. Instead of my students being confined to sitting in a chair at a desk all day, I believe it is important that each individual is able to pick a seating option that allows them to do their best learning. Our current "seating" options include things like regular chairs/desks, counter space for standing while working, stools, pillows, lap desks, and low tables. The Folding Floor Seats and Kids Kore Wobble Chairs will provide additional seating options to maximize options for my students. The folding seats will allow students to sit on the floor and still have adequate back support. The Wobble Chairs will provide students with a way to stay active while working.
Alternative seating options in the classroom promote autonomy.
Giving my students the ability to station themselves where they feel they do their best learning has created a community of responsible learners. These new seating options will serve all of my students but will be especially important for students with ADD/ADHD by providing an outlet for restlessness and extra energy acting as a fidget to help students learn to their fullest potential.
