My Project
Hi! My name is Rachel Rothchild, and my co-teacher Jack Lewis and I are seeking two class sets of books and some flexible seating to turn our inclusion classroom into a read-aloud oasis. Now, you might ask yourself, why have an entire class read the same book? Why read this book aloud? The answer is simple: not only does reading aloud increase student engagement and motivate students to read, but reading aloud also fosters creativity helps children develop critical literacy skills. These benefits are true for all students, but especially students with disabilities, of which we have several in our classroom.
Picture this: the lights are dimmed and the students are getting cozy around the classroom (in a beanbag chair, etc) with their own copies of Mr. Lemoncello's Library in front of them.
The class starts to popcorn read (take turns reading around the room), and you can see the interest and excitement on their faces. This is what we envision for our classroom, and with your help, we can bring our students together with a love of reading.
