My students need kits and labs to discover how we got here, what we are made of and determine where we have been.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Davis's classroom raised $696

My Students
My students always want to know what, where, and why? In the science classroom, these are essential questions no matter what the unit of study. In our genetics and evolution unit these questions are particularly thrilling and we have no way of investigating further.
My students are economically disadvantaged.
We live in a very rural and isolated area. Education is not a priority for a lot of families in this community. Even with all of this stacked against them, my students are bright and willing to learn as soon as they enter my classroom. I try each day to open new doors and expose them to things they may have never experienced. Our school is extremely small and we do not receive much funding. There are only two science teachers for grades 7-12 and I am one of them! We need all the extra funding and supplies we can get.
My Project
If I receive all of the items I have requested, I will be able to incorporate a hands-on activity for every section of our Evolution/Genetics unit. The students will learn the evolution and adaptation of the peppered moths and apply that knowledge to other species, as well as, ourselves. The students will also work through a several genetics kits that deal with meiosis and gene sequencing. The students will learn about mutations as well. After all of that, we will then work our way through the application of this knowledge by working through an investigative forensic lesson. The students will not only learn all of this information but they will also retain the knowledge for years to come. They will be able to recall the fun times in the lab and recall what they learned.
Please help support my project.
My students are sponges ready to soak up new knowledge and experiences. Without your support, I will not be able to incorporate these hands-on activities that are so vital in the science classroom. The labs are what my students remember. Application of knowledge is a valuable life-tool I am able to give my students through continuous laboratory opportunities.
