My students arrive daily on a bus, not going to their home school can give a student a lack of ownership. I support them in academic and social learning in order for them to be successful students. The majority of my students are low economic learners who come to school for the warm inviting atmosphere we create for them. Learning in our room comes from many areas; books, computers, and social interaction with each other. Each day is a new beginning.
My Project
In our classroom with 2 teachers and 19 students we must rely on engaging educational games to support learning while working in groups without a teacher to lead them. Students gain social skills during game centers that can make them successful in the real world; taking turns, patience, integrity in winning and losing. Each day we rotate 4 times for both Math and ELA instruction and games are a fun way to support the days curriculum. Kids can play for 20 minutes to gain a break from direct instruction. Allowing them to rely on their previously taught skills while enjoying a fun learning center will impact their academics also. Students also enjoy the flexible seating arrangements that the cushions supply.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
