Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Today's students look up to and idolize the Justin Biebers and Kim Kardashians they see on TV. My students need to learn about other positive role models. History has given us many role models and I want my students to research them and learn about their many contributions to society.

I teach at a unique urban school.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. I teach students Kindergarten through fifth grade, many of whom have individual needs that does not allow them to attend school daily. Many of the students I teach have emotional and social issues, have frequent medical treatments, have safety concerns, have difficulty in a traditional school setting and/or are homeless. My students each face their own challenges everyday outside of school.

My Project

By providing my students with a diverse library of grade level appropriate biographical and autobiographical books, my students will be exposed to many different characters who have made a variety of contributions to society throughout history. My students will learn about the lives, educations, and contributions of key historical characters. After learning about and doing additional research, my students will create poster projects to share. My students will share what they heave learned about their chosen character and how they have made an impact on society.

Having a diverse library of grade level appropriate biographical and autobiographical books, will help educate my students and expose them to the contributions of significant historical characters and the impact they made on society.

My students will create poster projects documenting what they have learned. Creating and presenting their poster projects will help my students develop research skills, speaking skills and build their self confidence.
