This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello, thank you for taking the time to read about me and my students and what you could do to contribute to their achievement and success! I teach first and second graders in a culturally diverse Title 1 (low income, free and reduced lunch) school in the state of Maryland. My students love to learn.
Do you remember your favorite author as a child? Or just a book you couldn't get enough of? My students learn to love reading through author studies. They sit wide eyed on the carpet as we read books by selected authors and can't wait to get their hands on the stories they've heard. That's where you come in - we need to get those stories in their hands.
My goal is to build a library rich in children's literature so that my students have beautiful books from the authors we've studied available to them. Each day after we finish a story, I am always asked "Can I read the book you read today?" and I want to have the resources to allow all of my students to read those stories. I have seen first hand how this builds excitement about school, curiosity of the world, and a love for reading.
This will be the first part of my library, focusing on books by the celebrated children's authors, Eric Carle, Arnold Lobel, and Kevin Henkes. By helping me build my library, you will be a part of my students success. These books give students love, support, confidence, comfort, intellect, courage - the gifts are endless. I look forward to sending you many pictures of the projects my students create as a result of having these books available to them, and of the achievements they have made because of your gift. Thank you.
