Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you know what you can learn from inspecting what someone eats? Well my students want to know what owls eat!
We are a large PreK-6th grade school.
We have about 1,200 students in our school. We are located in a inner city in PA. We have dedicated teachers and our students are out of this world. We, just like many other school districts, are facing devastating budget cuts. My 4th grade students enjoy doing hands on activities.
My Project
This "Teach for the Planet" project will include a display of the reconstructed skeletons and the food web the owls belong to. Dissecting owl pellets will give students the opportunity to discover what small vertebrates make up the owl's diet, study the skeletal remains of the prey and discuss the importance of owls in the environment. The owl pellets you would be donating will allow students to work with other students while using not only science, but also art, language arts, and math. By dissecting the owl pellets students will not only learn about owls, their diet, habitats, and characteristics, they will gain an understanding of the following: predator/prey relationships; the vertebrate endoskeleton; food chains and food webs in the owl's habitat.
The Schoolhouse Rock DVD will help my students learn about recycling, ecology, and how to make our earth a greener place!
My students will be able to investigate the owl pellet and reconstruct the bones they find in the pellet.
They will have a hands-on experience that they will remember for a lifetime.
