Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Science is a very important part of my classroom learning. As a teacher in the south Bronx, most of my students have never really been to a park, let alone seen animals that live in a park, except what they see in their textbooks.
We have become a very hands-on learning classroom, as I have come to learn myself that my students do better when they get to experience learning first hand instead of just reading about it.
One of the topics that my students love the most is life science and animals, and I can't think of a more amazing way to study animals than by studying one of the most fascinating animals out there - OWLS.
Owl pellets are absolutely amazing. The first time I dissected one, I was in wonder and awe looking at the bones and skulls inside the tiny pellet. I know that my students would have the same look of amazement, if they too could dissect owl pellets in class.
I am asking for the supplies to complete the dissection as part of our life science unit. This includes;
* Owl pellets for each student
* A book about Owls (my students love to read about what they are learning for days and weeks after we studying something)
I can only imagine the looks on their faces when they find the bones and skulls inside owl pellets and the questions they will ask about life science. I hope that you will consider my proposal and be part of my students learning more about life science then what is in their textbook!!! Thanks for considering us!
