Help me give my students trays, tweezers, and teasing tools to pick apart owl pellets plus a human eye model to have their hands on science and see themselves as scientists.
Curious, inquisitive, diverse, hungry for learning...that's what my fourth graders are! As an elementary educator, I aim to create an inclusive learning environment that encourages my students to develop their own identities as budding scientists. Guiding my students to affirm their identity as individuals and investigators is an important part of our science curriculum. One of the ways my students build their knowledge of concepts is through hands-on science lessons. My diverse scientists are ready to dig into life science and investigate what owls eat as they delve into ecosystems through an owl pellet.
Picking apart owl pellets is a perfect hands-on learning experience to give my fourth graders an opportunity to see themselves as scientists as they observe, question, and build knowledge while collaborating with their peers.
My fourth graders will build knowledge together as they tap into their background knowledge and life experiences to make learning meaningful, engaging, and equitable. The Stainless Steel Surgical Trays will be the perfect palette to dissect the owl pellet with tweezers and teasing needles. My fourth graders will be equipped with the tools they need to succeed as a scientist. There is plenty of learning packed into a pellet!
Along with picking apart owl pellets, my fourth graders will also open their eyes to how the eye works with a Human Eye Anatomy Model which aligns with our Mystery Science unit on The Human Machine. My budding scientists are chomping at the bit to dig in and figure out what was for dinner!
