Whole Group Meets Small Group

Help me give my students the dry erase boards and markers so I can use them to fill the academic gaps of the previous years. Items will be used for small group and formative assessment activities.

My Project

In my 6th grade math classes, we use dry erase boards and markers on a daily basis. We use these boards as an alternative way for guided practice, quick formative assessments, and using in small and partner work which is helping with our academic gaps of the previous couple of years. The white boards provide me with the opportunity to see what the students are understanding and help them with immediate feedback when they are struggling. These boards also have a coordinate grid on one side. This helps students spend more time learning and understanding the many 6th grade standards that require the use of a coordinate grid rather spending so much time drawing the grids. The boards that we have been using are many years old and have been well loved by many classes this year and in the past. The problem we are having is that the markers never seem to last, erasers disappear, and the whiteboards have become stained from frequent use. This year we have lost many of our whiteboards do to damage which has created an issue in allowing all students the ability to use the materials.

My students love using white boards because it is a different format to worksheets and paper and pencils. They get excited and constantly ask to use them. By providing these, my students will be able to continue to get excited about math and continue to lessen the academic gaps that have been created from previous years.
