My Students
Carl Sagan once said,"I am often amazed at how much more capability and enthusiasm for science there is among elementary school youngsters than among college students."
Our school supports a popular Family Science program where students, along with their parents and siblings, work together in scientific teams to experiment, observe, measure, and predict.
Students in grades two through five spend eight evenings during the school year investigating such topics as the science of bubbles, air pressure, and spider webs.
My Project
Family Science promotes parental involvement in science education. By showing an interest in science and making time to explore ideas and conduct simple investigations, we can help parents have a positive influence on children who may otherwise decide that science is too hard, too abstract, or boring. The hands-on materials I have requested will enhance our program and help our students understand the role science plays in their everyday lives.
We want to teach our children to love science.
We want to help them understand the world and ask questions like how and why, then research and experiment to find the answers. We want to nurture and encourage the next generation of scientists, and we want their families to partner in this learning. Who knows? The next Benjamin Banneker or Sally Ride might be waiting to be inspired!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
