Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students may be familiar with Martin L. King, Rosa Parks and even Ruby Bridges, but they have no clue about how these civil rights heroes have impacted their lives. I want my students to feel pride about how these heroes helped to change how we are treated as human beings.

I have a class of 22 energetic kindergarten students.

My class is composed of 11 boys and 11 girls. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area of South Los Angeles. We are considered a Title 1 school because 95 to 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students attend before and after school programs where they get help with homework in a safe environment.

My Project

With civil rights literature books like "The Civil Rights Movement for Kids", "The U. S. Civil Rights Movement: The Fight for Equality", "Rosa Parks", "Heroes for Civil Rights", "Child of the Civil Rights Movement", and "Knowing Your Civil Rights" will help me plan lessons that will help my students understand the civil rights we enjoy because of the struggles these heroes endured in the past. The rocker will accentuate our circle time area.

Your donations to this project will help build up the positive self images of my kindergarten students.

Through this project my students will understand the importance of the civil rights movement and how it has impacted their lives. My students will most importantly learn about the civil rights heroes who looked like them, and fought to make their lives better.
