My Students

My students live in a city where crime rates are high, and there is a 98% poverty rate. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with the same creative and meaningful learning experiences that other students are able to have.

Although I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day.

By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My students, although only three and four years old, are hard workers, and they deserve to come to school and feel safe and loved, and I'm happy to be the one who is able to give them that.

My Project

Art is so very important in a child's life. Creativity, improved academic performance, developing motor skills, confidence, visual learning, decision making, perseverance, and focus are just a few important factors.

In art, you are allowed to make mistakes - Sometimes the greatest artwork is based on it.

My classroom needs a classroom collage box that is filled with numerous different craft supplies, so my students have a variety of crafts to chose from. They also need craft sticks to make shapes with, coordinate colors and patterns, and make different objects and shapes out of them.

My students would benefit from dot art painters because we do a lot of activities in the classroom with them. They're able to dab them or rub them on the paper to make their work. Sometimes when painting, it takes up too much time, so, unfortunately, we don't always have as much time to paint as we'd like. With kwik stix (tempera painters), they'll have the opportunity to use these painting sticks, without the timely, big mess, which means more time for painting!

Ink pads are important too. Our kids love to stamp, and unfortunately, sometimes ink pads run out of their bright color. So we would l

Our students need glitter and glitter pens because what child doesn't love to sass their picture up with a little glitter! So either adding sprinkles of different colored glitter or using a glitter pen or two to add some color and spice to their creation would make it extra special!

We also need store it all craft containers and unbreakable craft jars so the students have access to the craft materials, and so we can store them safely and properly.
