This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach second grade at a school where roughly 70% of students speak a primary language other than English. My students are gifted in understanding compassion, differences, and what it means to struggle. When we come together each day from a wide variety of backgrounds it's a unique opportunity to learn from each other and the community around us. Many of them are fighting for a life very different from their current realities.

They're learning that the power to change lies within themselves regardless of circumstances.

As a teacher I am privileged to help them in that process. My instructional focus in language arts pushes me to find the best methods, materials, and supports I can to help them succeed.

My Project

Learning to read is hard work! With students of all different backgrounds their needs range from basic alphabet recognition to needing to be pushed with more challenging words and activities. As a second grade language arts teacher I am constantly looking for ways to meet students where they're at and making instruction more engaging. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of my students missed a lot of early literacy instruction. This learning is crucial to their academic success and they need materials to support them at their individual levels.

By donating to our project you'll give students the opportunity to learn to read in fun and engaging ways!

I see huge potential in my students and am excited to partner with you in helping them reach it--as they say, it takes a village to raise a child!
