My Students

Energy, passion, excitement, and determination are all words that come to mind when I'm asked to describe the room full of scholars that walk in my door every morning for 180 days. Their home lives are varied and a large percentage of them come from families that qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. Many of them have very supportive, involved parents, and others have parents whose attention is spread very thin. But no matter their lives at home, they are so excited to learn new things and love coming to school each day!

My Project

I have a room full of excited readers, but each year, it seems harder to get them excited about nonfiction text. These books are biographies of great role models from all kinds of backgrounds, both current and past. They include titles in Spanish and are engaging text at a level that is reachable for my students. I intentionally chose some people that they may not have heard of before, so they will be learning about new people and periods in history as they eat up these books!

I am excited to add these to my classroom library to give my students another reason to get excited about reading!
