My Students
Remember when you wanted to learn more about a subject in class but the teacher had to move on with the curriculum? That happens every year when I teach a little about forensic science in my genetics unit. I would love to say yes instead of no to my students.
I teach eighth grade General Science in a suburban middle school to my regular classes and an Earth Science Regents course to my advanced students.
I also teach an inclusion class where there is another teacher in the room to help with the students with learning modifications that are mixed in with the general education students.
My Project
I am requesting several forensic science kits to help students continue their interest in forensic science outside of the school day in a more in-depth manner. Students will study DNA analysis, ballistics, and chemical analysis In a safe environment with simulated materials. I will also be able to use these materials in my advanced forensic science class that is offered as a summer enrichment program that is open to other students throughout our borough.
I hate it when I have to tell students that I can't teach them more about a topic because I have a curriculum that needs to be finished in time for their statewide exam.
I would love to give them the opportunity to foster their love of learning and provide a safe classroom environment to do so.
