Who Done It?? (Crime Scene Investigation)

My students need The KIT CRIME SCENE ACTIVITY to introduce science content and methodology via the applied (and engaging) context of crime scene investigation. Students rotate through stations (e.g., fingerprinting, composites, blood-hair-fiber, entomology, memory, etc).

My Students

My 7th grade students are curious and creative problem solvers who make insightful observations as they engage with and learn from each other. My K-8 school of about 700 students is located in sunny Arizona. We are dedicated to significantly improving student achievement in the basic skills of reading, writing, math and science.

Our students are always eager to learn and explore.

My hope is to develop independent thinkers, foster critical thinking and encourage green lifestyle. I am provided with basic teaching resources but always look for ways to make learning more engaging and relevant.

My Project

Capitalizing on the inherent interest in shows like CSI, this project is an interactive, science-based curriculum for middle school students. It is designed to teach science content and methodology via the applied context of crime scene investigation. The project focuses on teaching and doing. Students do not just learn science content, they get to see it at work, and get to participate themselves.

During this unit, students explore the various types of physical evidence that can be found at a crime scene and learn how they are used to help investigators.

These hands-on experiences provides an overview of many types of physical evidence such as fingerprints, impression evidence (shoe tracks), hairs & fibers, chromatography, blood evidence. and DNA.
