My Students

WANTED: Delightful revolving bookstand for AMAZING second graders!

I have the honor of teaching second graders who attend an exceptional elementary school in San Diego, California.

Unlike many public schools, we are not provided with extra Federal funding that many other schools receive. I would still love to provide my deserving students with enriching resources. We are a diverse neighborhood school serving military families from the nearby base.

My students are a creative, enthusiastic, inquisitive, and diverse group of children who embody all that is right in society.

Students who attend our school are taught to be responsible critical thinkers. They show empathy for each other and the world at large.

My Project

Second graders are at the cusp of becoming fluent, avid readers. I need a little help making our classroom library more accessible and appealing for them. I am requesting a classroom revolving bookstand that can hold up to to 200 books.

That's right, 200 books at my students fingertips, not on a shelf in a corner but right where they need the books to be.

I envision my students getting quality books into their hands, quickly and efficiently, increasing the time they spend reading and decreasing the frustration of trying to find a book.

Providing this revolving bookstand for my students will make picking out a book less tedious and more enjoyable.

Having a parent in the military or deployed can be emotionally stressful for a child. Our service members work long hours and can go long periods of time without seeing their families. This can be distracting for the little military students who miss their parent or are worried about what they may be doing. Getting quality books into their hands, quickly and efficiently, will increase the time they spend reading and lesson distractions. There is a strong, positive correlation between motivation to read and reading achievement, and anything that motivates my kids to open a book is a necessity.

Please partner with me in supporting the military children and military families. Thank you!
