My Students
We may be in the "Who Dat Nation" but those phonics have "got to go!" My first graders have to become proficient in phonics in order to become independent readers.
My school is in the "Heart of Cajun Country" and we serve students of all races, creeds, and economic opportunities.
We are also a host school for students residing in shelters in our community. I teach at a school where we have many at-risk students entering first grade with little or no phonemic skills or phonemic awareness.
My Project
The art of teaching phonics and learning phonics has to be put to work in a "super-involving" way. Paper and pencil tasks and workbooks are not the best teaching practices. With the resources I am requesting, my students will be able to explore sounds independently or with a buddy. My students will be able to improve their knowledge of sounds and their relationships to words in order to become better readers.
With your donation, my little "Who Dats" will be able to learn in fun and meaningful way.
By practicing these skills on a daily basis, they will be able to improve phonemic skills which will improve their reading.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
