This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When given the nurturing and proper tools to foster their knowledge, my kids can move mountains. They are eager and energetic 8- to 9-year-olds. I currently have a homeroom classroom of 22 students who love school, which is a very good thing because our school is part of a district with more than half the students labeled as at-risk, and almost all of the students are considered economically disadvantaged.
Despite these astonishing statistics, the students are successful, eager to learn, and participate in a safe learning environment to foster their creativity and stimulate their critical thinking.
This year will be a particularly special year because many students will be returning to campus after 18 months of virtual learning. Helping to make sure that my incoming students develop critical skills in core subjects along with ensuring their social-emotional well-being is the ultimate goal.
My Project
Children absolutely love writing on the board. Providing my class with their very own whiteboard and whiteboard eraser can make them feel so special. With it, I'd like to allow them opportunities to practice much needed math skills, practice spelling words, or illustrate their mental images as I read class novels. I would also like to use them as a tool during informal assessments. The students could be having so much fun revealing their answers and not even realize I'm collecting data the entire time!
The whiteboards would give every student an opportunity to participate in a non-stressful, low-key environment.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
