Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students come from low-income families. Eighty-six percent of the student population at our school is eligible for free lunch. My class consists of 20 polite, intelligent, five-year-old kindergartners who are eager to learn. My goal is to provide my students with the tools they need to succeed.
My Project
My students will be using the whiteboards during shared reading. They will be reading books that contain sight words. I will be covering sight words we are focusing on that particular week, and the students will be using the whiteboards to write down what they think the covered sight word is. The whiteboards are double-sided and have handles that will allow my students to hold up their answers and allow me to see their answers. It will make it easier for me to see their answers since there is no longer a rug in my classroom due to social distancing.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
