This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The first day of kindergarten is a major transition in all young children’s lives. As a new Kindergarten teacher, I will do my best to make this transition as fun and engaging as possible. My new students will be excited little ones full of energy because they will be entering kindergarten. I know most of my future students because we have a Pre-K class at my school and I've been at my school for 18 years. I teach in a public school that is located in a city where we have a 90 percent socioeconomically disadvantaged population and 4 percent foster youth.

My Project

Help me give my students whiteboards and dry erase markers. I know that double sided whiteboards are very effective in the classroom and at home. My students will be able to write their answers when doing math problems and show their work by drawing a simple picture on the blank side of the whiteboard. They will also be able to practice their penmanship, letters, and words using the lined side of the whiteboard.

Each student will be provided with one whiteboard and two dry erase markers to use at home.

This is going to be extremely helpful when doing my virtual lessons using Zoom. I wish I had enough double-sided whiteboards and dry erase markers, but this is not the case. Our school is very limited in supplies and I want to make sure that my students have these materials so they can do their distance learning work. I also want to make it fun for them by using a variety of materials and not only paper and pencil. I'm also trying to save paper.
